It is not that bad. Let’s be patient

The wave of complains and negative responses to F1 “new turbo era” are not fair.

March 20th, 2014 (F1plus/Gustavo Roche).- Yes indeed,. They sound different, they look different, their speed is different and the list goes on.  Well, different does not mean, bad.

Come on people, ejem…fans, let’s be patience and try to focus on the very good things the sport is bringing this year.

We understand. The roar of the V8 was something that gave you goose bumps and the Fuel conservancy thing is irritating, but to me, there’s way much more into a Formula 1 that makes me watch it, follow it and of course, love it. Yes, that is the word. Love, with relates to passion.

The roar could be fixed in time, but don’t forget that F1 is about technology and being the best at that. Come on, an extremely modern and cutting edge Hybrid powertrain, and that does not turn you on?

We are talking about a car that is being partially powered by energy that is created basically out the blue, by itself (braking and exists gases). I’m sorry, but that is cool to me.

How about the turbo engine? It is actually more powerful per CC than the previous V8 and more fuel efficient, but yes, that sound. Ugh…not great, just lower in frequency and with less projection. Granted. It could be better, but it is not the end of the world.  It should not turn people away, because if you do, you were not a committed fan, nor had the real passion for it.

However, were you able to hear the tyres being lock or spinning before? Or even the whistling of the turbo, which makes me realize that it is spinning at 125,000 per minute?

Don’t take this writer wrong (and his broken English), you have the right to voice your concerns, but also try to put everything that is happening in perspective and evaluate all aspect and change sin place.

Moreover, not sure if everyone knows, but the turbo has something call “turbo lag” and it is annoying and makes driving more complex, especially as HP figures go up. Well, Did you know that they made (yes, they as in F1 engineers) possible to avoid that by automatically bypassing some of the recovered energy at that precise time?

Oh…and now we got more torque and bigger DRS, which equals to more overtaking.  To me, that is a good thing.

Ah…the fuel issue. From my standpoint, not that bad. 100k per race, well, it is up to them to make sure they make it. Sure, the fuel flow rate I don’t like, since it is a given that we the assigned amount of fuel, they would have to manage.

If Ricciardo would have to push too hard to avoid being overtaking by Magnussen, maybe he would have run out of fuel in the last laps. Well, so be it.  It is up to him and his people to get the strategy right, at the end everyone starts under the same conditions.

Strategy has been part of Formula 1 since the every beginning, and it got a real boost in the 80s.

The sport needed a shake up. Just remember that Monaco race last year. We all know the principality usually does not offer great racing ‘per se’ but to me it was an abomination seeing Vettel having the fastest lap 2 seconds (or something like that) faster than Rosberg’s best.

This mean they well cruising, but by choice and exclusively because of the tyres. Not good.

The 2014 Australian was an interesting race, with plenty of overtakes, cars going to the run-off areas, incidents, and for once an almost-new podium. Come on, we even saw Raikkonen making a mistake. 

I mean, Caterham was having a good race with chances of points. Without this changes, you think that would have happened.  Don’t we want to see that?

How about Lotus at the back end and suffering? How many of you smiled when Vettel retired because his car failed, which translates to the almighty Red Bull struggling?

If the sound of the engines would have been just like the “good old” V8, would this new issue be on the map? I don’t think so, which goes to the point of being narrow minded.

The Australian GP authorities saying they were going to check into the contract something about the sound? Give me a break.

Sure, FIA and teams decisions sometimes puzzle me, and at times, I don’t personally like it. It seems at times they ask but themselves only when planning on changes.

Those double points in last race based as an attempt to stop Vettel’s dominance is not fair, no logic with all these changes coming up.

How about those noses? Didn’t they have people telling them about the possible outcomes of that? I supposed they did not and that is wrong.

Nevertheless, what would they do something to hurt the sport that leads them all?

We have also seen that they have moved to correct mishaps fairly quick, so be patient and enjoy.

Formula 1 is applied technology and as such it has to change and adapt constantly. We are supposed to embrace it, since it CANNOT go on without change.
