SAO PAULO, Nov 25, 2011 (AFP) - Mark Webber topped the times for Red Bull during Friday morning's opening free practice session for Sunday's season-ending Brazilian Grand Prix.

The Australian is yet to win a race this season after being overshadowed by his Red Bull team-mate and recently crowned double-champion German Sebastian Vettel.

Nonetheless, the 35-year-old, who won in Brazil in 2009, clocked a lap of the Interlagos circuit in one minute 13.811 seconds towards the end of the session, edging out rival Jenson Button of McLaren by 0.014 seconds.

Button was followed closely by his McLaren team-mate and English compatriot Lewis Hamilton and champion Vettel in the second Red Bull.

Local hero Felipe Massa was fifth fastest ahead of his Ferrari team-mate Spaniard Fernando Alonso, who ended up watching the final minutes of the session from the edge of the track after an engine failure brought his car to a stop with seven minutes remaining.

Veteran and seven-time champion Michael Schumacher, 42, was seventh quickest for Mercedes followed by Force India drivers fellow German Nico Hulkenberg and Briton Paul Di Resta.

German Nico Rosberg was tenth fastest in the second Mercedes.
