Schumacher, Rosberg, singing in the rain

A victory for Mercedes falls into the realm of possibilities. The team has been consistently delivering, but competition is fierce.

Silverstone, United Kingdom, July 6, 2012 (AFP) - Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg showed little fear of the treacherous wet conditions on Friday as they steered their Mercedes cars to third and fourth fastest in practice for Sunday's British Grand Prix - and declared they are happy if it carries on raining.

Seven-times champion Schumacher, 43, one of the great 'wet racers' of his time, joined Rosberg after a rain-drenched day in praising their team for the work done in making progress in such miserable and challenging conditions.

Schumacher said: "We had reasonably consistent conditions. There was too much water on the circuit in the early part of second free practice, but finally, it was ok to run.

"Even though it was tricky, it's okay in terms of you get used to the track because it (rain) might happen on Sunday. We did a lot of good work."

Rosberg said: "Our car seems to be alright, so from my point of view it can rain!

"In general, it was a good day and very productive. We improved the car a lot from this morning and for similar conditions it was a lot quicker, so I'm quite pleased with that. So it can rain tomorrow, of course, no problem."

In the last race at Valencia, Schumacher was able to finished 3rd and hence jumped to the podium for first time since joining Mercedes. Rosberg has definitely be the most consistent of the two; a victory in China was his highlight.

Overall, the German has been a constant his year, so another victory in such a contested championship is very possible.
