January 21, 2013 (F1plus Team).- The 2008 Formula 1 champion, Lewis Hamilton, made his first official appearance as member of his new team, Mercedes AMG F1.

Hamilton visited the Mercedes-Benz headquarters in the German city of Stuttgart on Monday, and he said he was impressed with Mercedes commitment.

The German team has been working hard to improve all aspects of the operation. From management by bringing Niki Lauda and Toto Wolff to the driving side by signing Hamilton.

At first, and for some, the moved looked more as a surprise and questionable decision for Hamilton, but with time Mercedes could prove it was well worth it.

Hamilton, who ended his longstanding partnership with McLaren in 2012, was given a guided tour of the car maker's extensive facilities, before walking through the dedicated museum which houses Silver Arrows Formula 1 cars of the past.

"To be back and to know I'm part of the Mercedes world is a real privilege. I'm so grateful to be welcomed into the team and really excited," said Hamilton.

"I've been to Brackley in the early part of December, asking lots of questions, trying to get as involved as I can in the limited time that I was there.

"It was great to see how enthusiastic everyone was. It looked like there was incredible determination to turn this around. That gave me a lot of motivation for my winter."

Last year Mercedes scored his first win in ore than 50 year, but then, the team faded and struggled to score any point in the second half of the season. In spite of this, but Hamilton is confident they can bounce back and he says it isn't 'impossible' for them to be fighting at the front.

"I live to win. That's what I work towards every year," said the 2008 champion. "So that's what we’re going to work to this year.

"Of course it's going to be tough to compete, to beat the guys that are already at the front like the Red Bulls and the Ferraris and McLarens but I don’t think it’s impossible," he added.

For many 2013 would be a off year as all team prepare for the big changes in 2014 (Mainly: Turbo), and it's clear that Mercedes is working toward being very much ready then to be on top.

"I think this year's going to be an interesting year, an interesting journey.

"Learning and getting to know new people and working with new people is always a massive challenge so that’s first and foremost one of the biggest challenges I have.

"And after that it’s trying to succeed, trying to extract the most out of them and vice-versa. But I think it’s going to be a journey that we are going to enjoy."
