May 18 (F1plus Team).- Formula 1 sole tyre supplier Pirelli, has confirmed that a more durable Hard compound will be on offer in Spain this weekend.
The compound, which was put into trial last time out in Turkey, will bring a greater difference between the Hard and Soft types.
“The new tyre offers a little more durability over a race distance and provides a wider gap between the Soft and the Hard compound, which gives the teams an opportunity to run more aggressive strategies,’ explains a statement from Pirelli.” Added the company through a press release.
For 2011, teams and Formula 1 governing body the FIA requested Pirelli to provide tyres with shorter life spans in order to encourage more pit stops and overtaking maneuvers.
Nevertheless, it has taken some time for the team to really adapt to new fast-degrading tyres. Few cars lose grip before expected and the number of pit stops has increased dramatically. Istanbul provided the greatest example of this so far, with the majority of drivers electing for four-stop plans, in total there were 82 of them.
“The PZero Yellow (Soft) tyre, which has been used at every race so far this year alongside the PZero Silver (Hard) tyre, will also be provided to the teams in Barcelona.”
