SILVERSTONE, June 28th, 2013 (F1plus/R. Baillie).- Free Practice 1 was a washout with only 11 drivers setting a timed lap, which must be frustrating for teams who’ve are eager to test their new updates.

The past couple of races haven’t been easy for Lotus with Kimi Raikkonen’s podium streak ending and DNF’s for Romain Grosjean in both Spain and Monaco. In order to try and climb their way back up the standings this weekend’s updates need to work well to help both drivers achieve a strong finish.

Speaking on the Lotus website earlier in the week Alan Permane, Lotus Trackside Operations Director, revealed that they were running with “a tighter, figure-hugging bodywork package which should give some benefit; especially if the weather is quite cool at Silverstone.”. In addition to that they will also be running a new front wing and suspension and aero upgrades.

F1Plus spoke to Lotus Test Driver Davide Valsecchi, who told us what he thought about their updates; “For this race we have some really new updates that, for me personally seems that they were faster and that can be useful to our car, but anyway we have to wait the judgment of Kimi Raikkonen.”.

He also indulged the Enstone based team’s plan for testing the updates over the weekend, “The plan is, if they are going well this afternoon we bring it also for Romain Grosjean’s car for tomorrow morning.”.

With a dry FP2 forecast the team should have no issues testing out their new upgrades and hopefully they’ll live up to the Iceman’s expectations.
