Perez FP3 tyre failure due to debris

Following an initial investigation, Pirelli confirmed Perez’s tyre failure was due to debris
Sunday, June 30, 2013

SILVERSTONE, UK, June 30th, 2013 (F1Plus / Rosie Baillie) - The Mexican’s left rear tyre suffered a blow-out during the first few minutes of FP3, red flagging the session right away.

Perez was able to crawl back to the pits, however by the time he arrived at his garage there was very little of the tyre left and the floor of the car had suffered damage.

Pirelli carried out an initial examination of the remains of the tyre and determined that the failure was due to debris.

Speaking about the issue Paul Hembery, Pirelli’s Director of Motorsport said, “First findings show that this was unequivocally caused by a cut in the inner sidewall: something went into the tyre, pierced it, and then came out again, in the direction of travel.”

The Italian tyre manufacturer stressed that the incident during FP3 was completely unrelated to a number of delaminations we saw at the beginning of the season, which resulted in Pirelli changing the bonding agents on their tyres.
