Pole position "fantastic" - Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton commented after qualifying that he was surprised by his pole position, and remained realistic in his expectations for Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix

July 27th, 2013 (F1Plus / Chris Cameron-Dow) - Lewis Hamilton took his third pole position in succession when he set the fastest tim in qualifying for Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix. It's the 30th time Hamilton has secured pole position in his career and fourth as a Mercedes driver. Nico Rosberg will start the race fourth in the other Mercedes after losing some time on his qualifying lap with a stuck brake balance adjuster in the cockpit of his Silver Arrow.

Hamilton is assuming he will have a tough fight at the front to win tomorrow's race, particularly given that he shares the front row with reigning World Champion Sebastian Vettel. hamilton said, " Looking to tomorrow, this is a tough circuit to overtake on but it's also a long run down to the first corner, and both Seb and the Lotus cars will be really quick. We have a good car but the race will come down to how we use the tyres. We are working hard to improve in that area and we had some reasonable long runs yesterday. We'll have to see how it goes because it's going to be tough in these high temperatures."

Ever the racer, Hamilton is hoping for an entertaining afternoon: "I would love to have a real race with the guys around me, a proper battle, and the goal has to be to collect as many points as we can."

Nico Rosberg was not expecting Mercedes to be quite so quick in qualifying, after both drivers had struggled in Friday practice. Rosberg said: "Our speed was a bit of a surprise today as the car set-up work was focused on good race pace this weekend. But it worked quite well in the hot temperatures. It's great for the team to be starting from fourth and pole position."

Rosberg has had three pole positions this season, and has won two races, both from the front row of the grid. Hamilton, by contrast, has just secured his fourth pole position,  but has yet to win a race in 2013. He will be aiming to take his first victory as a works Mercedes driver tomorrow afternoon.
