Alonso says all good with Montezemolo

The spaniard calls the issue a 'misunderstanding' while playing down all speculation about the driver's market.

SPA, Belgium, August 22nd, 2013 (F1plus).- Fernando Alonso said on Thursday that the public rebuke he received from Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo was due to a misunderstanding that has been resolved.

In a statement, following a disappointing Hungarian Grand Prix, Ferrari said that di Montezemolo had tweaked the Spaniard's ear after the two-time champion had joked with Italian reporters that he wanted a more competitive car for his birthday.

But on the eve of this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix, Alonso said: "I think it was wrong information coming to the president....

"We looked back to all the press conferences -- these days with recorders etcetera, you know, it's easy to check exactly what you say -- and it was nothing different to any other grand prix and I tried to push for the best for the team and for our performance.

"He is the father of this family, of Ferrari, he is a great motivator. He told us exactly what he expects from us and what he wants from us."

Alonso also denied that the Ferrari president had asked about his future intentions after it was reported in Hungary that the Spaniard was interested in a possible switch to Red Bull.

Alonso added: "I think the president is a very intelligent man to separate what is rumour and what can be true.

"We have both been in F1 for many years now and we know what the summer break means in terms of rumours and so on - so there were no questions to answer."

He added that the story erupted as a reminder to everyone at Ferrari of how much attention the media pay to the Italian team.

"In anything we do, the repercussion of what Ferrari does is bigger than any other," he said.
