SPA, Belgium, August 22nd, 2013 (F1plus/G. Keilloh).- The circuit of Spa-Francorchamps, the venue for this weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix, is synonymous with wet weather, situated as it is in a notorious micro-climate. Further, some forecasts suggest that there could be such wet conditions on this Sunday’s Spa race day.

Not all teams would welcome this, given rain’s capacity to ruin weekends at a stroke as well as to lead to unusual results. But one team that would welcome some rain in this forthcoming race is Caterham, the team currently backing the pack up at the bottom of the 2013 constructors’ table.

When asked about the possibility of a wet race both Caterham drivers confirmed that they would welcome the opportunity such a race would present of gaining a better result than usual, which in turn could lead to the team leapfrogging Marussia in the constructors’ table.

Caterham driver Giedo van der Garde said in Spa: “I think it’s (rain is) a good opportunity for us. I think it’s always nice here in the rain. I think our car performs quite well in the rain and with that, a lot of things can happen in the race so we will see. I think it would be nice for us to have a little rain, a little luck here and there. Hopefully we can get back our tenth place in the team championship.”

And van der Garde’s team mate Charles Pic concurred: "Each time you have changing conditions, for us it’s good because it means that if you take the right decisions you can take advantage from it and try to get a finishing position that you are not able to get without changing conditions."

Pic is also convinced that the Caterham’s competitiveness has been improving in recent races, whatever the weather was.

"The two first races were difficult and for sure we were not at the pace we wanted to be but I think all the team, including the driver, made a good job and progressed race after race to become stronger and stronger after races.

"We finished in Budapest, I think our highest level of the season. So I think that is quite positive. Still not where we want to be so we need to continue like that and push it forward. But I think it was a good progression." The frenchman added.
