Massa feels optimistic, aims for better times

June 2 (Andrés Rojas).- The very eventful weekend of the Monaco Grand Prix left Felipe Massa with a sour after taste. 

The Brazilian has been without luck for three straight races, and when we compare his performance with Alonso’s, the scorecard will not look good on him.

Two consecutive retirements, and the last one at Monaco where the F150 Italia seemed to be better fitted for the circuit, left the team and himself wondering. Massa commented on Ferrari’s website: "Those three races in May did not go well for me.”

Alonso’s remarkable performance at Monte Carlo when he finished 2nd and his charge for the lead was cut short because of that unusual and rarely seen red flag, tells a lot about Ferrari improvement.

Massa race was over early when he crashed in the tunnel, but just immediately after Hamilton tried to unkindly overtake him at the hairpin, where their cars touched. "Unfortunately, there was the accident with Hamilton, which put me out of the running…we had a very good potential there and I think I could have finished the race in fourth place.”

Felipe Massa is optimistic about his team chances and the car competitiveness. Little by little the team is gaining ground and building momentum.

"There was at least one positive aspect to the weekend and that is the fact our car was much more competitive than we had seen it at the previous race," he added.

"Our pace was very good and I hope that will also be the case in Canada and Valencia.”

For sure, Felipe Massa is an excellent driver, but with no guarantee contract, he has to step up and deliver better results while also reducing the performance gap with his teammate.
