MONZA, September 6th, 2013 (F1plus/R. Baillie).- Esteban Gutierrez feels Friday’s practice sessions were useful and provided them with the right for Saturday.
“It was a very productive Friday, without any issues on the car. We were trying to find the right balance and set-up of the car in the morning.” Gutierrez said.
The 2010 GP3 champion said the sessions went well and provided them with the knowledge they need to prepare the car for FP3 and crucially, qualifying.
“Overall it looked positive and we have very good data to analyse so we can make the right decision about the set-up of the car tomorrow.” he explained.
The Mexican, who won in Monza in 2010 in GP3, performed well on Friday finishing FP1 in 11th and FP2 in 12th. Unfortunately the same couldn’t be said for teammate Nico Hulkenberg whose morning was hampered by a gearbox problem.
“This morning was compromised a bit by a gearbox issue, which we were able to solve before the afternoon session.” Hulkenberg said.
Despite the issue in the morning, he too felt the day had been useful, “as usual, we were learning about the tyres and the set-up.”.
The German felt the team still had room to improve on low fuel runs, something which may hold them back during qualifying.
“When doing the long runs I felt more comfortable in the car than with low fuel. We definitely have some room for improvement there.” He explained.
Speaking about next year Hulkenberg told ESPNF1 that there were options available, “There's been some movement and there are some seats available. But I think it's quite early in the season and I think nothing is really fixed or confirmed yet”.
