September 19th, 2013 (F1Plus / Chris Cameron-Dow) - Earlier today, Jenson Button told Sky Sports F1 that he has a contract with McLaren for 2014, ending speculation over his future at the team.
Sky Sports F1 reporter Rachel Brookes today tweeted: "I asked Jenson Button where he is at with his contract, his response 'It's done, I'll be here next year.'"
The news of Button's continuing relationship with McLaren comes as no surprise. The 2009 World Champion has arguably only improved since winning the title, and is without doubt one of the top drivers in Formula One.
Button may be confirmed for next season, but he refused to be drawn on his plans for 2015 and beyond. It could be that he and McLaren are still negotiating with Button on a more long-term basis.
There's no news yet about Button's team-mate for 2014. Sergio Perez has driven the second McLaren this season, and McLaren have an option to retain his services for next year. Eearlier this week, McLaren team manager Jonathan Neale told Autosport, “We don’t comment on rumour mill or drivers until such time as we’re ready to make an announcement. I hope that it won’t be too much further now before we’re able to clarify what’s going on."
