Interlagos, BRAZIL, November 22nd, 2013 (F1Plus / Bruno Ferreira) - Daniil Kvyat is pleased to once again have had the opportunity to drive the Toro Rosso car before becoming a race driver in 2014. In first practice for the Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos, the young Russian replaced Daniel Ricciardo and delivered an impressive performance.
Although the track was completely soaked due to the rain, Kvyat managed to complete 17 laps, finishing in the eight place – half a second quicker than his teammate, Jean-Eric Vergne.
“All in all it was very positive as I did quite a good lap, enough for P8. In the end we needed to limit a bit my running and I didn’t do as many laps as would be convenient. We needed to save tyres for Daniel. It was a good experience and my P8 is a reward,” said Kvyat.
The GP3 champion said he felt surprised by have being so fast in the wet. “A little bit, yes, because you can never know how fast you can be in a F1 car. Austin was a completely new track for me and it didn’t take me too long to learn the track,” he said. “Here were good laps. It’s a really nice track, very technical. On the wets is quite grippy as for me it was the first time I drove on wet track.”
He thinks he’s more comfortable with the F1 machinery before the preparation of the testing season next year. “It brought me more confidence with the car. Now I don’t think too much to drive it. The power is not a problem anymore. I think next year is going to be different, but it was important to have this experience.”
