Webber believes he is leaving F1 at the peak of his form

The Australian driver believes his stats don’t do justice to his performance this season

Interlagos, BRAZIL, November 22nd, 2013 (F1Plus / Chris Cameron-Dow) - Mark Webber arrived at his last race weekend in F1 sure that he is still in great shape to carry on with his career. After 12 years in F1, the last six at Red Bull, the Australian driver thinks he’ll arrive at Porsche next season in the peak of his form.

Asked by F1 Plus about his feelings on his farewell to F1, Webber said he leaves the sport relieved as he’s still delivering some good performances to his team. “You need to perform well, which I’ve done on the last five or six months. I’m still challenging at the front. I made some pole positions, lead some grand prix, and pushed hard. If I were not making to Q3 this would be not nice on me. I’m still quick and I stopped [in F1] when I wanted to stop”, he said.

Although he stands fifth in the points table, with no wins against his teammate Sebastian Vettel’s 12 in 2013, he thinks the numbers don’t do justice to his performance. “I don’t think the overall points show the season I had. We lost a lot of points with failures of the car, which I cannot control.”

His last attempt to gather a victory will be in a circuit where he has won twice, in 2009 and 2011. Such a successful background boosts the Australian's hopes of getting a positive result in his final race. “I’ve never won a race three times. I won at Monaco, at Silverstone and at Interlagos two times, so maybe here it’s the third time. It would be a nice farewell,” he reckons.

“I have a lot to do this weekend. I can’t dream about doing the race on my own, as there is a lot of tough competition. But I’m happy to have my last race here because I have a good feeling that I can do it well. It would be a nice farewell for me and also for the fans.”
