“I’m very happy with the way I started in F1”, says Bianchi

Despite the slim chances of scoring points in his first season, the French driver has no regrets with his year.

December 12th, 2013 (F1plus/B. Ferreira).- Jules Bianchi said he’s totally happy with the start of his F1 career this season.

At the beginning of the year, the 24-year-old driver had the chance to take a cockpit at Force India, but the team opted to hire his well-known driver Adrian Sutil.

Bianchi then signed Marussia to start his career in F1, although he would have fewer chances to showcase his skills.

Speaking exclusively with F1plus, Bianchi reckons his first year in the world championship turned out to be perfect.

“It’s important for a driver to start in F1 wherever you go to show what you can do. For sure, if you can fight for points it’s better”, he said.

“Anyway I think what we’ve done with Marussia this season is good because we are showing good progress compare to the last year and the year before. I’m very happy with the way I started in F1.”

“You really need to be ready when the opportunity comes because you can have only one chance. There are a few examples of drivers who had two chances in F1, like Grosjean, who left F1, went back to GT and GP2.”

He said though working for a small team doesn’t necessarily means he’s racing without pressure.

“I think there is pressure anyway. We still have the pressure. It’s not like we are not fighting anyone, we have to fight with Caterham because it is really important to finish in front of them on the championship. Even if we’re fighting for 10th place it’s really important for us, so we have this pressure as well.”

Nevertheless, Bianchi went through a completely different reality for him. Always used to fight for top positions in his junior career, he spent the whole year dealing with blue flags.

“It’s a different way of competing. Before I was fighting against 26 drivers but now we know we can’t be in front of other teams, except for Caterham. It’s different, but I can’t complain. It’s good to be here and show what you can do”, he said.
