JEREZ DE LA FRONTERA, Spain, Jan 27, 2014 (AFP) - Formula One team Toro Rosso unveiled their new car for the 2014 season in Jerez, Spain, on Monday, ahead of Tuesday's opening pre-season test session.

The STR9, designed by the team of engineer James Key, will be powered by a Renault engine, just like it's big-brother team Red Bull.

"In 2014 the key parameters for success will be finding the best balance between deploying the power of the engine and managing the 100kg fuel limit per race, the use of the two energy recovery systems and, just as in the past, the tyres.

"Apart from the new rules, at Toro Rosso we have also had to adapt to a new engine partner and we are looking forward to working with Renault.

"This new engine will help the synergy between the two teams," said Toro Rosso Team Principal Franz Tost.

In the drivers side, the Frenchman enters his third, and probably final season with the team, understand the implications the new season brings for him and his team.

"The team must make the most of winter testing and work hard to ensure that all our efforts pay off.

"We will have a lot of new elements to understand and changes that will require us to adapt as quickly as possible. That will be one of the tasks for winter tests, so that we can make the most of the package available right from the first race." Said French driver Jean-Eric Vergne.

Toro Rosso, who lost Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo to Red Bull for this coming campaign, finished eighth in last season's constructors championship with 33 points.

The team's other driver for the season, which begins in Melbourne on March 16, is 19-year-old rookie Russian Daniil Kvyat.

The rookie driver feel very optimistic and shows early enthusiasm for the upcoming season.

"Being a rookie means there’s a steep learning curve, but the bright side of this year’s regulation change is that all the drivers will be getting used to a new way of driving, starting from zero. Anyway, I have always liked a big challenge." Kvyat said.
