Red Bull showing signs of life

Daniel Ricciardo clocked third best time of the day at Bahrain.

February 28, 2014 (F1plus).- It has taken some time, but Red Bull seems to be doing better this past couple of days. Today maybe too good.

Daniel Ricciardo was able to clock third best time of 1:35.743, which was only 0.173 from Sergio Perez who lead the time sheets (1:35.570) for second straight day and with similar numbers.

This is the type of improvement that builds confidence. Knowing that when everything ‘clicks’ performance is there, no doubt, there are reasons to be optimistic.

Not only that, it allows the team to concentrate in finding the needed reliability since the speed might not be a major problem.

Ricciardo managed to extract 66 laps out of the RB10 in the middle of a mixed programme that included pits stops, a number of background tests and aerodynamic evaluations.

“It went a lot better today.” The Australian said.

“This morning it was important to have the race crew here to do the pit stops, as they haven’t had the chance to get to grips with the car yet, so we didn’t do that many laps in the morning.

“However, in the afternoon we did some good stuff. We had a go on the soft tyre, which was nice, to see how the car responds with a bit more grip.

“We also did one long run at the end, which was very important, just to see how the car is behaving with the tyres.

“A big improvement everywhere over yesterday and a much more optimistic outlook now I think.

“We still have a lot to learn and understand, but we’re making progress and the past two days have been a big step in the right direction.” Ricciardo concluded.

Now the RB10 will be on the hand of the four time champ, Sebastian Vettel, who will test the car for the last two days of pre-season testing before heading to Australia for the first round of the season.

Considering the limited track time, Red Bull still faces a lot challenges and will have to work around the clock to be ready coming the Australian GP.
