March 16, 2014 (F1 Plus / Rosie Baillie) - Daniil Kvyat’s 10th place finish at the Australian Grand Prix means he beats Sebastian Vettel’s record of being the youngest driver to score points at 19 years and 324 days old.

The young Russian was understandably happy to have picked up his first point, describing it as ‘amazing’.

‘I never expected to score a point in my first race, so it feels amazing.’ Kvyat said.

‘It’s a real boost for us and now we have to keep on working hard and if we keep on the way we are going, then we can look forward to a really positive season.’

Team principal Franz Tost is convinced that this is just the beginning for the rookie driver, who won the 2013 GP3 series.

‘I’m very happy for Daniil, who has just become the youngest driver to score a point in his first ever Formula 1 race. This is very promising and I’m convinced that this is the first of a long series.’

Teammate Jean-Eric Vergne, who finished ninth, said the car was difficult to drive and cited brake problems as the reason for their loss of time.

‘This is obviously a good result, even though the car was very difficult to drive. We had problems with the brakes which made us lose a lot of time but at the end we are all satisfied to finish the race with two cars in the points.’ the Frenchman said.

‘I’m very pleased with the overall three points especially for the team, more than for myself.’

Toro Rosso’s three point score puts them seventh in the constructors’ championship, three points behind Force India.
