March 26, 2014 (F1 Plus / Rosie Baillie) - Sergio Perez feels the higher temperatures in Malaysia could play into Force India's hands and hopes he can improve on his 10th place finish in Australia.

“I believe Malaysia can be a very good race for us. Let's see how we can perform there.” he said.

“I think Melbourne was a more difficult one for us and with a hotter track and more rear tyre degradation for everyone we can be stronger. I'm counting the days to Malaysia to recover what we couldn't achieve in Australia."

In 2012 Perez finished second at the Malaysian Grand Prix, behind Fernando Alonso, and is hoping he can improve on his previous performance this year.

“I'm counting the days to Malaysia to recover what we couldn't achieve in Australia. I have good memories of this track and I want to build on my previous results there.”

Like most teams, Force India are still learning about their 2014 challenger and the Australian Grand Prix provided them with lots of data they can begin putting to good use in Sepang.

“It was the first race and we, as everyone else on the grid, are still learning a lot about the new car.

“We have seen some encouraging signs and collected a lot of data that can be put to use for the next few races, starting in Sepang.”

Teammate Nico Hulkenberg on the other hand is expecting the Malaysian Grand Prix to be a 'tough challenge'.

“Malaysia is going to be a tough challenge with totally different track characteristics and higher temperatures, which always leads to higher tyre degradation.” Hulkenberg said.

The German driver is expecting to see big changes in the pecking order thanks to the rule changes.

“This year we'll see bigger jumps and changes in the pecking order during the season. There are still some teams that need to sort out their issues and they will probably become stronger.”
