Towards the end of the race Massa was issued team orders to let Bottas past so he could try and catch Jenson Button.

The Brazilian did not move aside and the pair scrapped towards the end of the race, with Massa finishing ahead of his teammate.

After the race Massa told Sky Sports F1 that if Bottas couldn’t pass him, he didn’t think he could pass Button either.

“We are fighting for the championship, we are in the second race. Definitely I tried the best I could and Valtteri couldn't pass me so it was going to be difficult to pass Jenson as well.” he told Sky Sports F1.

“So I don't think things would have been changed at the end.”

Williams are currently fourth in the constructors’ championship with 20 points.
