Getting both cars in the points today is a positive result for the team.” he said.

“On the whole I don’t think this track particularly suited our car, so we have done well to finish where we have, and I’m confident that we will be more competitive in Bahrain.”

Valtteri Bottas had a strong start moving up from 18th to 12th on the opening lap of the race.

Though the car wasn’t as competitive as he hoped, he praised the team for their work.

I think we need to be happy about today as moving from P18 to P8 is a good result and we have more points in the bag.” Bottas said.

“The car was not as competitive this weekend as it was in Melbourne, but the team has done a very good in producing a car that is looking like it can consistently fight in the top ten.”

Towards the end of the race Massa was issued team orders to let Bottas past so he could try and catch Jenson Button.

The Brazilian did not move aside and the pair scrapped towards the end of the race, with Massa finishing ahead of his teammate.

After the race Massa told Sky Sports F1 that if Bottas couldn’t pass him, he didn’t think he could pass Button either.

“We are fighting for the championship, we are in the second race. Definitely I tried the best I could and Valtteri couldn't pass me so it was going to be difficult to pass Jenson as well.” he told Sky Sports F1.

“So I don't think things would have been changed at the end.”

Williams are currently fourth in the constructors’ championship with 20 points.
