Grosjean: 'we are aiming for podiums'

The Frenchman says Lotus are aiming high ‘no matter what the challenge’

April 2, 2014 (F1 Plus / Rosie Baillie) - Despite a tough start to the season Romain Grosjean says Lotus are aiming for podiums.

The Enstone based team have only had one finish out of four starts so far, with Pastor Maldonado retiring from both races and Grosjean only finishing the Malaysian Grand Prix.

The Frenchman finished 11th in Malaysia after a tough battle with former teammate Kimi Raikkonen.

The difficult start to the season doesn't seem to have dampened the teams spirits as Grosjean says Lotus are aiming high, no matter what.

“No matter what the challenge, we are aiming for podiums and strong performances wherever we go.” he said.

Grosjean has competed in Bahrain twice and finished third both times.

“Twice I’ve raced there in Formula 1 and twice I’ve been on the podium. So that’s a good record!”

The Lotus driver is confident of an upturn in performance as the team will be trying new things on the car in Bahrain.

“To make major progress we need more days like Saturday and Sunday in Malaysia, where we learned a lot about the car.” Grosjean explained.

“We will try new things in Bahrain and I’m confident the car will be better.”

Teammate Maldonado is yet to finish a race and is hoping for some ‘reliable laps’ around the Bahrain International Circuit.

“Good reliable laps in the car would be the starting point. This will allow us to understand the car’s performance and where we can improve it.” said Maldonado.

Lotus heads into the third round of the season ninth in the constructors’ championship.
