April 6th, 2014 (F1 Plus / Rosie Baillie) - Sergio Perez took the teams second podium finish under the floodlights in Bahrain after a third place finish.
The Mexican spent most of the race in the points and took part in some well fought battles with his teammate Nico Hulkenberg and the likes of Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso.
Perez described the podium finish as ‘amazing’ and said it was a huge confidence boost after a hard season at McLaren in 2013.
“This podium is an amazing achievement and one of the most special results in my whole career.” he said.
“This is a massive confidence boost, especially after the very hard season I had last year, and it was the hardest-fought podium I ever had.”
Team Principal Vijay Mallya was happy with the podium finish and said it was one of the ‘greatest days’ in Force India’s history.
“Today is one of the greatest days in the history of our team.” Mallya said.
“It’s been a long time coming, but it’s very satisfying to see Sahara Force India back on the podium after so many near misses in recent years.”
“So I’m extremely proud of everyone in the team and congratulate all of them on this achievement. 2014 is a new chance and we have shown we're moving forward in Australia, Malaysia and here. I couldn't be happier.”
Force India last appeared on the podium at the 2009 Belgian Grand Prix when Giancarlo Fisichella finished second.
The team are currently second in the constructors’ championship with 44 points.
