Max Chilton: the Marussia is better than the Caterham

The Briton believes they have a better car than title rivals Caterham.

BARCELONA, 8th May 2014 (F1 Plus / Rosie Baillie) - Max Chilton believes that the Marussia is better than Caterham’s 2014 contender.

“We’ve always had a good battle with Caterham. They kind of hold back sometimes, I think, in practice and qualifying and surprise us in the race.” Chilton said.

“I think this year, to me, our car is definitely better.”

“We’ve bought some good updates to here. I’m not sure if they [Caterham] have or not.”

There may be some truth in Chilton’s statement as Marussia are currently 10th in the constructors’ championship with Caterham in 11th.

For both teams it’s important to try and finish the year 10th as the team who finishes last will receive no prize money.

Chilton has finished 23 consecutive races and holds the record for most classified finishes in rookie season and most consecutive finishes from start of career.

The Briton says his finishing streak isn’t Marussia’s main goal but it is important for them to finish races.

“It’s not our main goal, but where we are it’s absolutely critical to finish the race as I’ve shown this year with the two 13ths.”

“So we will try to keep it going but our main focus is to try to get a bit more speed out of the car and myself.”
