BARCELONA, 9th May 2014 (F1 Plus / Rosie Baillie) - Marcus Ericsson says Caterham are struggling with grip and to get their car working as hoped at the Circuit de Catalunya.

“Yeah it was quite a difficult day for us in general. We didn’t really get the car to work as we hoped on this track,” Ericsson said when asked by F1 Plus how the car felt.

The Swede added that the tyre choices for this race hadn’t helped.

“just in general it’s been quite low grip because of the tyres Pirelli brought, the hard and medium compound, it’s two compounds that’s quite hard and it doesn’t seem to get our car to work really with the tyres and the track,”

“so overall we’ve been struggling to find the grip and it made it quite difficult for us drivers to get the feeling.”

Ericsson said Caterham will sit down tonight and analyse their data to see if their new updates have made a difference to their performance.

“We have done a lot of laps at least today, which is good, and we have a lot of data to analyse tonight.” Ericsson told F1Plus.

“We need to compare the aero data and see if we’ve made improvements today with the updates we’ve brought,”

“we need to really work hard to try and find a way to get the car to work better tomorrow because I think there is for sure room for improvement.”

Ericsson and teammate Kamui Kobayashi finished FP1 and FP2 behind main rivals Marussia.
