The Venezuelan says there is still more to come from the E22.

BARCELONA, 9th May 2014 (F1 Plus / Rosie Baillie) - Lotus haven’t had the easiest start to the season, but after the first day of the Spanish Grand Prix Pastor Maldonado feels they are making progress.

Maldonado had an issue free day and put in 76 laps in total.

The car felt good today and it feels like we’re really making progress. We completed more set-up work and it was great to have a day without any issues.” he said.

The Venezuelan, who finished 8th and 9th in FP1 and FP2 respectively, feels there is still more to come from the car this weekend.

“With the programme we were running I didn’t set my fastest laps when the track was quickest, so there’s more to come from the car as it is, as well as from further set-up improvements.”

FP2 ended prematurely for Romain Grosjean who was called into the pits after the team spotted abnormal brake wearing.

Despite the frustration the Frenchman could see the improvement in his teammates car and is predicting a good result in qualifying if the issues on his car can be resolved.

“Today was frustrating as we had quite a few small problems which made it difficult for me to get clean runs and set a good time.” Grosjean said.

“This also made it difficult to get the set-up of the car where we want it to be. The positive is that we can see there’s pace in the car from Pastor’s laps.”

“If we can get everything sorted and my car running like it should we could have a good result in qualifying tomorrow.”
