BARCELONA, 10th May 2014 (F1 Plus / Rosie Baillie) - Adrian Sutil is confident Sauber made a step forward during Friday’s practice sessions.

The team had a tough start to the season due to the car being overweight, which prompted Sutil to try eating no food for two days in a bid to reduce the cars overall weight.

Sauber brought a few updates to the Spanish Grand Prix, including; a weight reduction, aerodynamic updates and more efficient cooling, which seems to have positively impacted lap times.

“We definitely made a step forward today. In the morning it was not easy to evaluate things because we had to solve some minor issues” Sutil said.

“I had a good feeling about the potential of our car, and during the afternoon was able to witness this.”

The German added that he believes there is still more to come and says he has a ‘good chance’ of getting through to Q3 on Saturday afternoon.

“My fast lap was ok, but I think we can improve in every corner.” Sutil said.

“If we can implement everything tomorrow, we certainly have a good chance to finish tomorrow’s qualifying in the top ten.”

“We still have a lot of work ahead of us, but we are going in the right direction.”

On the other side of the garage it’s a different story as Esteban Gutierrez says he isn’t happy with the cars balance. The Mexican had limited running on Friday as test driver Giedo van der Garde was in the car during FP1.

“At the moment, I don’t feel very confident. I am not very happy with the car’s balance.” Gutierrez said.

“We had some issues with the power unit, so we lost quite a lot of time on track, which makes it more difficult to get a proper feeling for the car.”
