BARCELONA, 10th May 2014 (F1 Plus / Rosie Baillie) - Caterham have announced a senior management restructure after parting ways with Technical Director Mark Smith.

The Leafield based team will replace Smith with a three person Technical Committee in an attempt to create a more efficient management process.

Jody Egginton will become Head of Design & Manufacturing, Gerry Hughes who joined the team earlier this year is now Head of Track Operations and John Iley is Head of Performance Engineering.

Team Principal Cyril Abiteboul said the team were parting with Smith on good terms and was confident that the restructure would improve Caterham’s on-track performance

“We and Mark part company on good terms and with our best wishes for the future.” Abiteboul said.

“It was obviously a tough decision to see someone of Mark’s calibre go, but we have identified the need to restructure as a key aspect of increasing our on-track performance and forming a new Technical Committee composed of John, Jody and Gerry will allow us to do exactly that.”

“the new structure gives three specialists we are lucky to have with us the opportunity to use their experience, passion and dedication to help us progress.”

“We are not happy with our current performance levels and John, Jody and Gerry, with my full support and that of our shareholders, staff and partners, are the right people to help take us forward.”

On Friday Marcus Ericsson told F1Plus that the team had been struggling with grip and felt there was room for improvement.
