Force India again with a double points finish

Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg claimed 9th and 10th place respectively in the Spanish GP.

MayMay 11, 2014 (F1plus).- The entire Force India team, from the crew, to its boss (Viya Mallya) to its drivers, Sergio 'checo' Perez and Nico Hulkenberg had doubts about having a good result for today's race.

Nevertheless, when the overall package is good enough, even in conditions (track) that do not suit a particular team, chances are a decent result might come by. Well, that is what happened today to Force India, which again, manage to have both drivers on the points.

Both drivers were sitting without too much noise in the edge of the points for half of the race, and then they simply got inside of it, and never let go.

During this time, Perez was behind his teammate, but with a better pace, he just overtook the German to claim a good ninth place.

“It was quite a hard afternoon, so to come away with two points is not too bad.

"I had pretty strong pace in the race and my tyre degradation was okay so I think we probably could have been a bit more aggressive with the strategy.

"Maybe if we had stopped earlier I could have jumped ahead of some more cars because my pace was good, but it was just so difficult to overtake.

"We knew this track would be a tough test for us, so this result is more or less what we expected here. Maybe P7 or P8 was achievable today, but we should feel quite happy to keep up our run of points.” Commented Perez after the race.

The satisfaction does not end with the Mexican achievement but with Hulkenberg who took the last point-awarding place (10th).

The German seem to struggle a bit more than usual, but kept his cool just as usual. No mistakes, not a lot of things happening either, but a result that leaves the team with a good feeling.

"It was a case of damage limitation today.

"We knew from the early practice sessions that this wasn't going to be our strongest track so to get two cars in the points is a positive result.

"The tyre degradation was high and the car was not so easy to drive, but I think everybody was struggling in the final part of the race. I thought we would need to make a third stop, but fortunately the tyres held on and I was able to score a point.

"We will use all the data we got over the weekend to improve for the next few races where we hope to be a bit more competitive." Said Hulkenberg.

Ferrari's result means that Force India sits 4th in the championship, still ahead of McLaren, who keeps its dive.
