6th June, 2014 (F1 Plus / Rosie Baillie) - A fuel leak which resulted in damage to the power unit ended FP2 early for Daniil Kvyat.

Ricardo Penteado, Renault Sport F1 track support leader, says Kvyat’s power unit will need to be replaced but is confident the same issue will not reoccur with the new unit.

“Daniil also had a tough FP1 and then aborted his afternoon session with a fuel leak that damaged some of the internals of the Power Unit.” Penteado said.

“We’ll have to change the PU but with a new unit we are hopeful we won’t see the same issues again over the rest of the weekend.”

Due to the issue Kvyat was only able to put in nine laps during the afternoon session.

The Russian rookie has never driven at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve before and said that thanks to simulator work he felt confident at the track.

“We had some problems with the car today that limited my track time. That's not ideal as I have never driven here before,” he said.

“but thanks to a useful simulator session last week, I found myself quite confident with the track straight away and felt able to attack the kerbs and the corners.”

The Toro Rosso driver said the car felt good and says he is aiming high for tomorrow’s qualifying session.

“Apart from the problem, the car felt good, so I am still confident and feel we can aim high for tomorrow.”

Jean-Eric Vergne’s morning running was limited by a battery issue.

The Frenchman is not 100% happy with the STR9 as he lost speed during FP2.

“Despite the little issue that we had this morning, which cut my session short, we managed to still achieve a good test programme today.” Vergne said.

“As for the car performance, I'm not 100 percent happy because, even though it looked quite promising in the morning, we lost some speed in the afternoon.”

“On the positive side, the long run pace was not too bad and we know in which areas we have to work to improve for FP3 and Qualifying, so I remain pretty confident for tomorrow.”
