8th June, 2014 (F1 Plus / Rosie Baillie) - Daniel Ricciardo won his first Formula One race after a barnstorming Canadian Grand Prix.
The Canadian Grand Prix ended under the safety car after Felipe Massa and Sergio Perez made contact, resulting in both drivers crashing into the barriers at turn 1.
We understand that both drivers are okay and paid a visit to the medical centre.
A few laps before the end of the race Ricciardo moved up into third place and began to chase down Nico Rosberg and passed him down the back straight to take the chequered flag.
Rosberg looked set for a win until an MGU-K failure hit both Mercedes cars.
The German driver was able to control the issue to finish second while teammate Lewis Hamilton also suffered brake failure which ended his race on lap 48.
Rosberg picks up 18 points over Hamilton, extending his championship lead to 22 points.
Sebastian Vettel made a surprise appearance on the podium after passing Perez a few laps before the end of the race when the Mexican driver was struggling with his brakes.
Jenson Button picked up 12 points and finished fourth after passing Nico Hulkenberg and Fernando Alonso in the final laps.
Throughout most of the race the Force India’s looked strong but Hulkenberg seemed to struggle towards the end of the race, losing a couple of places and finished fifth.
Alonso had another quiet race and crossed the line sixth with Valtteri Bottas behind him in seventh.
After a difficult weekend for the Toro Rosso’s Jean-Eric Vergne finished eighth while teammate Daniil Kvyat retired on lap 49.
Kevin Magnussen finished ninth and Kimi Raikkonen rounded out the points in 10th place.
Massa was looking very strong towards after pitting 12 laps before the end of the race and began making up positions.
At one point it looked like Perez could have capitalised on Rosberg’s issue to take his first win. The Mexican struggled towards the end of the race and dropped a place to Vettel.
On the penultimate lap Massa made contact with the back of Perez, ending both of their races. The issue is under investigation by the stewards.
Esteban Gutierrez retired on lap 67 after losing power.
Lotus suffered a double retirement with Pastor Maldonado retiring on lap 24 and Romain Grosjean on lap 62 with a damaged rear wing after spending most of the race at the back of the field.
A double retirement for Caterham also who lost Marcus Ericsson early in the race to save his power unit and Kamui Kobayashi on lap 25 with a rear suspension issue.
Marussia suffered a double retirement and brought out the safety car on the opening lap. Max Chilton appeared to lose control of his car going into turn 3 and made contact with Jules Bianchi who hit the wall.
