22nd June, 2014 (F1 Plus / Rosie Baillie) - Pastor Maldonado said brake issues prevented him from finishing higher than 12th place.
The Venezuelan qualified 13th and was able to make up a position to cross the line 12th, his highest finishing position of the season so far.
Maldonado said he was managed brake issues during throughout most of the race and also had to save fuel towards the end.
“Unfortunately we had some brake issues from very early on in the race so I wasn’t able to fight others around me,” Maldonado said.
“even though it was nice to be running in the top ten during the course of the race. After that, it was a case of saving fuel and brakes to get to the chequered flag.”
The Austrian Grand Prix is the first time Maldonado has seen the chequered flag since Spain.
“We finished the race which is positive and we made the most of the package we had today.” he said.
“We are losing a lot of time in the slow speed corners and we need to keep improving in this area to be more like our good high speed corner performance.”
Teammate Romain Grosjean started from the pitlane after the team broke parc ferme on his car to change his gearbox.
The Frenchman finished 14th and said he too was battling issues during the 71 lap race.
“We had various issues during the race to add to our struggle for overall performance so it was quite a challenge!” Grosjean said.
“We stopped very early for soft tyres but unfortunately we soon experienced graining from these which made it difficult for the rest of the race.”
