8th July, 2014 (F1Plus / Rosie Baillie) - Felipe Massa topped the timesheets on day one of the Silverstone test after setting a 1:35.242 during the morning’s running.
Daniel Ricciardo was the second fastest driver on track and put in a total of 71 laps and got within 0.006s of Massa’s fastest time but was unable to beat the Brazilian.
Third fastest was Nico Rosberg, who completed 89 laps, and Adrian Sutil in the Sauber was fourth fastest.
Jules Bianchi spent the day in his Marussia helping Pirelli with 2015 tyre developments and was fifth fastest after putting in more laps than anyone else, 108.
The Frenchman’s day was brought to an early end shortly before the end of the session when his car had a ‘small fire’, as the team described it. Not to worry, Bianchi will be in the Ferrari tomorrow standing in for Kimi Raikkonen.
Reserve driver Stoffel Vandoorne was sixth fastest in the McLaren and Sergio Perez was seventh fastest.
Jean-Eric Vergne had a stop-start day after stopping on a couple of times, bringing out red flags. The Toro Rosso driver was eighth fastest overall.
Pastor Maldonado put in the second highest number of laps, 97, and finished the day ninth overall.
Also testing for Pirelli was Pedro de la Rosa in the Ferrari. The Italian put in 49 laps, significantly less than Bianchi, and was 10th fastest.
Rounding out the runners was Will Stevens in the Caterham, whose fastest lap was a 1:40.627, five seconds off Massa's fastest lap.
