19th July 2014 (F1Plus / Rosie Baillie) - Lotus have confirmed that Pastor Maldonado will stay with the team for the 2015 season.

Team principal Gerard Lopez confirmed that Maldonado will remain with the team next year on the Lotus website.

I don’t want to give too much away, but as it’s half way through the season I can confirm 50% of our driver line-up for 2015 as Pastor is with us for next year,” Lopez said.

“Despite the difficulties we’ve had so far this season, he recognises our true potential as a team and we recognise his true potential as a driver. We will achieve great things together.”

Maldonado joined the team for the 2014 season and is currently 19th in the drivers’ championship. His best finish was a 12th place in Austria.

Lopez praised Maldonado and his teammate Romain Grosjean and said they had both remained positive through a tough first half of the season.

“Both Romain and Pastor have remained positive and focused. This is a real credit to them,” he said.

“They know the effort required to achieve strong results and they are working as hard as ever to ensure we can address every issue and make the most of every opportunity.”
