HUNGARORING, 26th July 2014 (F1Plus / Katie Grimmett) - It was Nico Rosberg who best negotiated the changing conditions and will start tomorrow’s race in pole position.

The German was the only driver to dip under the 1:23.00 for a single flying lap.

He will be joined on the front row by Sebastian Vettel. The four time world champion was five tenths-of-a-second behind for Red Bull.

Valtteri Bottas just missed out on matching his seconde place qualifying position from Germany and will start third for Williams whilst a consistent Daniel Ricciardo will start fourth in the second Red Bull.

Fernando Alonso secured fifth for Ferrari with Felipe Massa struggling in the rain for sixth. The Brazilian was almost one second adrift of team mate Bottas.

Meanwhile, Jenson Button was the highest-placed McLaren in seventh.

The Toro Rosso pairing showed some commanding pace with Jean-Eric Vergne qualifying eighth for the Italian outfit. The Frenchman topped the Q1 timesheets earlier in the afternoon.

As the rain began to fall on the final session, Kevin Magnussen hit the tyre wall at turn one forcing a red flag. The Dane did not post a lap time and will start tenth for McLaren.

A spin for Daniil Kvyat in the latter stages of Q2 cost him a chance at a top ten grid slot. As a result, the Russian was eleventh in the second Toro Rosso challenger.

Meanwhile, The Sauber pairing have benefitted from the removal of FRIC, allowing Esteban Gutierrez and Adrian Sutil to qualify twelfth and fourteenth respectively.

This is a strong qualifying for the team who are yet to score a point this year. A hydraulic problem for Sergio Perez pushed him.

They were joined by Romain Grosjean, who was the only Lotus driver to post a time. He will start tomorrow’s race from fifteenth for the Enstone-based outfit.

Jules Bianchi was the first driver out for Marussia who are struggling for pace since the removal of the FRIC system last week. Despite this, the Frenchman qualified sixteenth overall, successfully entering the second qualifying session.

His team mate, Max Chilton was halted by a fuel pressure issue and qualified nineteenth. He was joined by 2007 world champion Kimi Raikkonen who made a costly error at the start. The Finn dropped to seventeenth for Ferrari, just in front of the Caterham drivers.

An early problem for Pastor Maldonado saw his car stop at the side of the track. The Venezuelan did not post a lap time.

Similarly, a fire on the back of Lewis Hamilton’s car ruined his chances of securing pole. The four time winner at Hungary did not complete a flying lap.
