Vergne says he understands Verstappen decision

The Frenchman says he is not annoyed by Toro Rosso's decision

SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS, 21st August, 2014 (F1Plus / Rosie Baillie) - Jean-Eric Vergne says he is not annoyed that he will lose his drive at Toro Rosso at the end of the season.

Earlier this week Toro Rosso announced that Max Verstappen will join the team in 2015 to race alongside current driver Daniil Kvyat, leaving Vergne without a seat.

The Frenchman said he understood the team's decision and they were giving Verstappen the opportunity the same way they gave him an opportunity three years ago.

"they are giving the chance to Verstappen the same way they give me a chance three years ago," Vergne said.

"I understand the decision. I'm not pi**ed off, I'm a little bit sad obviously because I like the team, I like Toro Rosso and I believe it's a good one.

"But it's a bad for a good. It's always in difficult moments you can show your best potential and that's what I'm going to do in the next eight races.

When asked if he had anything lined up for 2015 he said it was too early to talk about it and would work with Toro Rosso to get the best car and finish in the points as much as possible.

"I'm not going to drive any differently than what I've done so far," Vergne said.

"I think in the other races i've had 5 retirements when I was constantly in the points so just going to work out with Toro Rosso to get the best car possible and that we finish the races always in the points."

Vergne is currently 13th in the drivers' championship with 11 points.
