Webber 'puzzled' over Vettel's time

McLaren seemed to have the upper hand for qualifying, but the defending champion came and took pole by a narrow margin over Hamilton, way head of his Red Bull teammate.

Hungaroring, July 30th (Andrés Rojas).- Mark Webber is basically in shock after seeing how his teammate flew to take pole at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The Australian, who had won the race last year, achieved only the sixth best time, so he will start from the third row on the grid. It was his worst qualifying session since his 18th in China along with a decent fourth in Canada.

The Australian, who produced a best lap time some six tenths of a second slower than Red Bull team-mate and pole-sitter Sebastian Vettel, admits that he is highly baffled by the difference.

“No way could I do that lap time, absolutely no way,” Webber told reporters in the FIA media pen. “We did have a few KERS issues during the session but it came back from the last run. But a 1 (minute) 19 (seconds) is just in a different zone to me, so it's strange, really bizarre.

“If you have a gap of six tenths it’s just overall grip; I need to look through it all, obviously, but it's a big step compared to the last few races so I need to analyze it.”

Nevertheless, it’s not a surprise the time difference over lap between the leaders and the immediate second tier teams.

Rosberg from Mercedes and who will start in 7th, finished a full second behind Vettel; Sutil will follow with a mark second and a half slower and the Schumacher another whole second later than his teammate.
