DRS zone defined for Spa-Francorchamps

August 24, 2011 (F1plus Team).- Formula 1 ruling body the FIA has confirmed the DRS zone for the upcoming Belgian Grand Prix to be raced at Spa-Francorchamps. Although the system will be banned at the great but treacherous Eau Rouge corner for the duration of the weekend, dry race conditions will permit its use on the following Kemmel Straight.

With the detection beam placed 235 metres before Eau Rouge, any car within one second of that in front will be able to use the device (from Lap 3 onwards, as usual) once crossing the following white line 270 metres after the rapid Raidillon curve. This will present an ideal overtaking opportunity on the run to the Les Combes chicane.

Throughout practice and qualifying on Friday and Saturday – providing the track is not declared wet – DRS can be used on any part of the circuit bar Eau Rouge, due to an agreement between teams and the FIA.

Most of drivers’ comments prior de event has included a line in regards the aforementioned turn, all of the them positive and emotional about it. So, it might be a good to keep it as it is.
