I’ve been a Formula One fan for as long as I can remember, which is probably the late 80s when Senna, Prost and Mansell used to battle it out on a regular basis.
I’ve tended to follow particular drivers, rather than specific teams in the past. I always supported Mansell no matter what team he drove for, and I always had a deep admiration for Ayrton Senna and his immense talent. Sadly the world only truely appreciated Senna after his tragic death. In the modern era I’ve become a bit of a McLaren fan and, in particular, a huge supporter of a driver inspired by Ayrton Senna: Lewis Hamilton. I think that you can see in Hamilton the heart of a true racer, someone who lives to win. There’s no better sight that a driver of this ilk in full cry – it’s what Formula One is all about for me; drivers pushing themselves, and their machinery, to the limit in the pursuit of glory.
I’ve taken to writing about the sport that I love only very recently on my Podium Finish Blog. My aim when I’m writing is to bring a slightly fresh or different perspective, as well as some of my own analysis of races and the big issues of the day.
