Biografía del Piloto

Daniel Ricciardo was born in Perth, Western Australia in 1989. He began karting at nine years old and moved into the Western Australian Formula Ford series in 2005.

The following year he won the Formula BMW Asia Pacific Scholarship and finished the Formula BMW Asian Championship third after two race wins and 12 podium appearances. He took part in the BMW World Final for Fortec where he finished fifth and was given an Outstanding Achievement Award.

He switched to Formula Renault 2.0, taking part in the Italian series and four races in the European series. He finished seventh in the Italian championship and won one race in Valencia. Ricciardo’s performance caught the attention of Red Bull Racing who signed him up for the 2008 Red Bull Junior Team.

2008 was a great year for the Australian and saw him win the Formula Renault 2.0 West European Championship and finished runner-up to Valtteri Bottas in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup.

The next year he won the British Formula 3 Championship with Carlin Motorsport after seven wins. At the end of the season he took part in the F1 end of season test in Spain for rookies for Red Bull Racing.

His performance during the test in Jerez earned him a reserve and test driver role at Red Bull Racing and sister team Toro Rosso.

At the start of the 2011 season Ricciardo was taking part in the Renault 3.5 series for ISR and taking part in Friday morning practice sessions for Toro Rosso.

From the 2011 British Grand Prix onwards, Ricciardo replaced Narain Karthikeyan at HRT. His efforts in the HRT resulted in him landing a drive with Toro Rosso for the following year.

He finished his first full year in F1 in 18th place and finished in the top 10, six times. Ricciardo stayed with Toro Rosso for 2013 where he improved further, appeared in Q3 a few times and outperformed teammate Jean-Eric Vergne throughout the season.

At the 2013 British Grand Prix, Red Bull Racing’s Mark Webber announced he would retire from the sport at the end of the year, and Ricciardo found himself as one of the team’s options for a replacement driver.

Before the end of the summer break Red Bull Racing announced that Ricciardo would replace Webber in 2014.

Car number: Ricciardo chose the number three for his car because it was the number assigned to him when he began karting and he says he is a fan of NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt who had the number three on his car for a few season.
