Biografía del Piloto
Son of former Formula One driver Jan Magnussen, Kevin was born on October 5th 1992 in Denmark.
His motorsport career began in karting, before moving into Danish Formula Ford in 2008 and winning the championship that year after 11 race wins.
In 2009 the Dane moved into Formula Renault and finished runner up in the Northern European Cup and seventh in the Eurocup. His performance throughout the year attracted the attention of McLaren who signed him up to their Young Driver Programme.
Magnussen moved into the German Formula Three Championship for 2010, where he finished third following three wins and was the highest placed rookie of the year.
The next year switched to the British Formula Three series racing for Carlin Motorsport where he finished second following seven wins.
In 2012 Magnussen was named as McLaren’s Development Driver and joined World Series by Renault 3.5 racing for Carlin Motorsport and finished seventh.
His first experience behind the wheel of an F1 car came during the Abu Dhabi Young Drivers Test later that year where he set the fastest time of the test and earned his FIA Super License.
In 2013 Magnussen remained in World Series by Renault 3.5 and switched to racing for DAMS and went on to win the championship.
McLaren desperately wanted to get Magnussen a seat for 2014 and tried to get him a seat at Marussia. When a seat at Marussia didn’t materialize, McLaren signed Magnussen themselves.
The young Dane may have high expectations to live up to as he is the first rookie McLaren have put in their car since Lewis Hamilton, who finished runner up in his rookie year and won the title the year after.
Car number: Magnussen chose the number 20 as it was the number on his car with he won the World Series by Renault 3.5 series with DAMS.
